Updates

Hi there!!
Yes, it's me. I actually haven't gone anywhere. I took a much needed winter break. Finals were tough, and I needed time to recoup. Now I'm here to tell you what's new with my life & Odelma.

New Space. Truth be told, I haven't had a desire to update the blog because I don't like working in a space that doesn't inspire me. I am over the layout of this blog. I am currently searching for designers that I can afford to give Odelma Blog a new look. I will also be digging into the design next week to see if I can come up with something pretty and fresh myself before I return to school. I have, though, updated the about me section with some new pictures. Have a looksy. Also, if you know any great blog designers, send them my way!

Sales. I actually was extremely busy during the Christmas season. Odelma did well! Especially since I wasn't promoting or adding new items to the shop (boo on school again here!). So I'm very pleased with  the extra sales I ended up with. It actually got me in the mood to list items again!

Spring Semester. With the way my school schedule works out this semester, I'll only be getting in around 4-10 hours a week at my current place of employment. Sort of a bummer, but it gives me a lot more time to work on Odelma during the school semester! I fought with the decision to give Odelma up this semester because I don't like doing things unless I can give my 100%, but since time has opened up this semester that just wasn't there last semester, I've decided to keep Odelma running. WOO! HOO! My parents also bought me a new photo light box. I take my pictures outside, and during school it was hard to make it home in time when there was still daylight, but the new light box allows me to take photos inside. I'm excited! Let's go, 2011!!

So those are the plans. Again, next week my big goal is to organize and implement some sort of plan for Spring 2011 & Odelma. I'm looking into planners, cutesy calendars, inspiration sources, and whatnot to keep me inspired and Odelma fresh. I'll be improving the look, getting back on twitter, and trying to come up with some regular posts on the blog. I've also made a promise to myself to take more pictures, so with the help of my newest gadget (iphone4), I hope to make this happen! So expect more pictures and a personal voice coming through the Odelma blog.

In the meantime, you can follow me on my newest obession - Pinterest.
And tell me, what would you like to see on the Odelma blog? I'm open for suggestions!

LOVE.

Shop Update: Earrings

Some of the newest jewels in the shop.

Pale Rose

I haven't been listing as many items as I normally do in a week. Unfortunately, it might stay this way until I'm out of school. :(
I try to get at least 1 item listed a day. Sometimes that doesn't work out and I'm ok with that! Again, don't want Odelma to be a chore. I have so much in inventory, so don't think I'm going anywhere!! Keep checking back. Also, I have big events coming this fall I can't wait to tell you guys about.

p.s. Don't forget to sign up for CD SWAP. Registration ends Monday, September 20th! We have a lot of people signed up. From Louisiana, Utah, Hawaii, North Carolina, Texas, and Australia. Help us get the word out!

Big News!

I've been really really anxious to
tell everyone Odelma's big news!

The Odelma Team is expanding!
In the past couple of weeks, Odelma has opened her arms to
a brand new seller and friend!

Meet Elizabeth:

I'm so excited to have Elizabeth join Odelma as a seller!!
I'll let her tell you a little more about herself:

Hiiii.

My name's Elizabeth. I'm a Nursing student at Southeastern Louisiana University. I'm never good at these "about me" things because I feel like that description would change every day. But there are few things that seem to stay constant with me: Jesus should be everything that is important. My family is absolutely insane, and they will always be the most important people in my life. My boyfriend Austin is my best friend and favorite person in the whole world. I'm an explorer at heart, and since the first time my mom took me garage saling when I was little, I've been in love with finding anything antique or unique. I often laugh at things that aren't really funny, and my favorite color is red.
If you have any questions to ask or want to chat, well do it! I like people. I'm new at all this (especially the bloggy things), but I sincerely hope that you like the things I find as much as I do :)

I never planned on having an Odelma Team.
As long as God keeps throwing me opportunities,
I'm going to keep running with them!

I've known Elizabeth since middle school.
She is perfect for Odelma!
Most of her items she has ready to be listed
were from her own house and room.
She's got a great love for all things old fashioned,
and I can't wait for what's in store!!

(Many more to come in the next few days)

Welcome, Eliz!
Show her some love!!

Jo Alyn Necklace

If you've visited the shop recently, you might have noticed this little gem
in the jewelry section. Goes by the name of Jo Alyn Necklace.
And here's the story:

{Barbara. Ethel. Jo Alyn.}

Jo Alyn is my Granny's sister.
They have been cut ups since I can remember.
I'm pretty sure they got it from their mother, Nanny, who
one time when I was little I heard call an old man (loud enough for him to hear)
an "old buzzard" for passing her in the hospital hall without speaking back to her.
And what's even funnier is that both Granny and Aunt Jo Alyn
have joined the Facebook world.
Aunt Jo leaves comments on Granny's wall like
"Hey, Ethel. Your hair's holdin' up good."
And Granny deletes them because that's what Granny thought
you do after you read a comment on your wall.
Even deleting a comment from my cousin, Aubrey, that said
"Hey, Granny. I love you!"
(Try explaining to Aubrey why her "I love you" comment was deleted.)

Anyway, after Aunt Jo heard about Granny's "name being on a website"
she insisted that at least a pair of earrings be named Jo Alyn.
It was only fair.
So when I came across this necklace,
I knew it would be the Jo Alyn piece.
Isn't it gorgeous?
Another one of those things I secretly wish wouldn't sell
so I could keep it for myself. ;)

And that's the story.

{Aunt Jo. Granny}

KJL?

I found these super cute earrings and brooch at an antique store yesterday. They were a good price! Couldn't wait to get them up in the shop. I always do a little browsing on Etsy when I put up new pieces just to see if there are already the same things out there, and to compare prices. I searched "black gold bow earrings" in the vintage section and found not only another pair of my same ones, but four pair of the same ones! I got nervous at first. Then I looked into it some more.
On the back of my pair, the words "KJL for Avon" are stamped on the back. I didn't think much of it. I have a ton of old Avon jewelry. Come to find out, Kenneth Jay Lane for Avon is a bigger deal than I was expecting. And by "big deal" I mean in the $30-$70 category, not the $15 one.

Here's what I learned about KJL: (taken from this listing on Ruby Plaza)
1. My brooch isn't a brooch, it's a necklace enhancer. ooo la la
2. Kenneth Jay Lane, who won the prestigious Coty Award, has as his trademark “Jeweler to the World’s Most Admired Women”. His designs are displayed in the finest stores in Paris, London, Tokyo, and New York. He incorporated shiny gold-tone and silver-tone, studded with sparkling rhinestones and crystals in a rainbow of glorious colors. He began at the Art Department of New York Vogue in 1954 and decided to head out on his own in 1963. He came to Avon in 1986 with the Society Collection. He continues to produce for Avon today. Most of his jewelry is big, bold and dramatic with the use of fine stones that he personally developed with his sources in Germany.
Kenneth Lane signed his pieces “KJL for Avon” from 1986 through 1995. In 2000, he began to sign his pieces simply “KJL”.

Oh, fancy.

So here's the result of all of this:
1. I've got a cool pair of bow earrings and a pretty bow necklace enhancer.
2. People are charging a lot more than $15 for their sets. (examples 1 2 3 4 5 6 and 7)
3. Mine are going to stay $15 and I'm still going to be thrilled when they sell.

The end.

I love old animal jewelry

This post started as post announcing my newest jewelry in the shop. I listed 5 pieces of my favorite items, vintage animal jewelry, and went to an engagement party. When I got home, 3 of the 5 pieces already sold! Woohoo! The peacock, the bird, and the elephant.  Go see the other two!

Guess who will be jewelry huntin' next week! Get ready.
